Hello darlings. This is a special FREE PREVIEW of something only paid subscribers would usually see! Can you imagine? A peek behind the velvet curtain of this thing we call SARATONIN. We start with SUCCESSION finale predictions, and then segue into recommendations.
If there’s one thing I love, it’s freaking out about stuff I dig and talking other folks’ sweet little ears off about what I hope they’ll watch, read, eat, drink, see and do. Was I a cheerleader on an alternate timeline where I could tumble and do the splits? Perhaps! But alas, on this timeline, I was merely a baton twirler.
Very Serious Succession Finale Prediction
That’s it. That’s my prediction. But here is some fun extra info about the man who brought Logan Roy to life.
This is one of two special extra editions of SARATONIN sent only to paid Substack subscribers and Patreon patrons each month. What’s the difference, you ask? Well, Substack subscribers are folks who love words, words, words. Patreon patrons are folks who love the words but also want a weekly patrons-only podcast, The Audio Letter, just for them, as well as occasional random things like groovy stickers and odd art projects.
I appreciate ‘em all, because these financial contributions help me make the art that I love. And as I’ve said before, I’m not selling a script anytime soon cuz my union is on strike to try and make studios pay us a fair wage. Also, I doubt I’m acting anytime soon cuz my other union will probably go on strike.
Anyway, as a WGA member, even if I booked an acting gig through SAG-AFTRA, I’m not going to cross a WGA picket line! Can you imagine? Awkward for all of us! Sorry, Christopher (Pine/Hemsworth), I cannot do kissing on the mouth with you onscreen anytime soon!
Okay enough about all that. Back to the fun stuff!
Recommendations
None of these recs is sponsored. It’s just shit I like. If you have recommendations for stuff I should recommenDATE (it’s a word now!) email saratoninnewsletter@gmail.com.
Dorky stuff for teachers, college students and other nerds
I used to be a teacher and I am a forever nerd. I am obsessed with the Los Angeles County Public Library Store. Oh God, it’s so cute. Look at the socks! And the action & activism books! And the writing utensils! Your purchases benefit the incredible Library Foundation of Los Angeles. (Do I have notes for them on site nav and user experience? Yes, but I am trying to take off my digital marketing hat here and just be full of pure love, okay?!)
Stuff to read if you enjoy culture that is popular
Some of you are not yet reading
and and I find that questionable. A neat gift for a friend is to get them a paid subscription to one of these publications (or mine, obviously).Stuff to read if you enjoy smart people being smart but in a way that doesn’t talk down to you because it is accessible and helps you understand stuff and also sometimes is funny even though life can be very sad
You might get your friend or lover a paid subscription to
or or Or perhaps you might simply subscribe to these publications yourself.Another thing you or some random dad might like? One of my favorite audiobooks ever, Leonardo da Vinci, written by Walter Isaacson and read by Alfred Fucking Molina. It’s interesting and fun and gay gay gay gay gaaaaaaaaayuh.
I adore audiobooks and recently did an episode of my friend Jackie Kashian’s podcast The Dork Forest to talk about them. I talk to Jackie almost every day of my goddamn ridiculous life but I had never screamed at her about audiobooks for an hour before.
Sadly I use the devil’s application (will not mention it by name). But Libby is the library app and it is free!
Stuff to put inside your human body
I am drinking Asbury Park Roastery coffee and I quite enjoy it. You can shop online through them and support a small business in the greatest state ever invented, New Jersey. Also, they are hiring! If you live in the area and love coffee, mayhaps you’d like to work for them? They have a location right inside the historic building you see in that moody photo up there.
Stuff to wear
The brainchild of a WGA member, WGA Strike Shirts are a delight. All profits go to the Entertainment Community Fund, a fantastic organization which helps everyone in the entertainment industry.
I used to work for Matrushka as a digital marketing consultant. They are having a big sale and all their stuff is made in Los Angeles, often from scrap or remainder fabrics. Go have fun! They’ll make stuff to order for your size specifications or you can order off the rack.
Alright, honeys, I hope you had a good time reading this. I thank you for it! Paid subscribers have one more post coming just for them before the month is out.
Stay safe, drink enough water, make sure you pee when you have to instead of holding it unnecessarily, sleep when you can, and know that if you need an extra hand, lots of help is always out there.
If mental health issues become a challenge during this long weekend and you need resources, check out Mental Health America, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, The Trevor Project, Therapy for Black Girls, and/or The Loveland Foundation.
Take good care.
